چکیده

W e introduce and discuss a methodology f o r heterogeneous simulations of computer networks using the dynamic simulation backplane. This methodology allows for exchanging of protocol information between simulators across layers of the protocol stack. For example, the simulationist m a y wish to construct a simulation using the rich set of T C P models found in the ns network simulator, and at the same t ime using the highly detailed wireless MAC models found i n the GloMoSim simulator. The backplane provides an interface between heterogeneous simulators which allows these simulators to exchange meaningful information across layers of the protocol stack, without detailed knowledge of internal representation in the foreign simulator. With this method of heterogeneous simulation, new and experimental protocols can be validated and tested in conjunction with existing and accepted simulations of lower protocol layers. W e discuss the particular problems presented by the split protocol stack model, and present our solutions. We give results of our implementation of the split protocol backplane, using the ns simulator for the higher protocol stack layers, and the GloMoSim simulator for the lower layers. Modeling and Tools for Network Simulation

Description: This book focuses on tools, modeling principles and state-of-the art models for discrete-event based network simulations, the standard method applied today in academia and industry for performance evaluation of new network designs and architectures. The focus of the tools part is on two distinct simulations engines: OmNet++ and ns--3, while it also deals with issues like paralleliz...

Traffic Prediction Algorithm for Speculative Network Processors

To support real-time applications, for instance Voice-over-IP, network infrastructure has to provide high bandwidth as well as short endto-end latency. To cope with both, network processors (NP) are selected. Current NP support transmission rates of OC-48. However, due to sequential packet layer processing, processing delay is not optimized. To solve this problem, speculative packet processing ...

Stack Architectures and Protocols for Emerging Wireless Networks

Recent devices developed for emerging wireless networks, such as 4G cellular networks, wireless mesh networks, and mobile ad hoc networks, support multiple communication substrates and require execution of multiple protocols within a layer, which cannot be supported efficiently by traditional layered protocol stack approaches. Our goal in this thesis is to discover the minimal set of requiremen...

Enhancing TCPs performance over GEO satellite links with split- connections and link level retransmissions

The inefficiency of currently widely employed versions of TCP over satellite links has been reported extensively and several solutions have been suggested for the enhancement of its performance. Although the vast majority of them proposes modifications to the TCP implementation, it is accepted that TCP efficiency could be improved by a number of additional measures taken at other layers of the ...

Unified Simulation Framework for Protocol Stacks in Sensor Operating Systems

Network simulations are widely used in sensor network research to design and evaluate network protocols. With the help of network simulation, protocol developer can reduce the time and cost involved in setting up an entire test environment containing multiple sensors and sink nodes. One of the major requirements in sensor simulation is to achieve accurate results. However, most sensor network s...
